Tidal Basins Wemeldinge

About this location
From the dike and promenade at Wemeldinge you can see them at the tideline of the Eastern Scheldt: two concrete tanks. At low tide they emerge, at high tide they disappear under water. Anyone who stops to watch sees the tide literally before them and, depending on the water level, gets a glimpse of the underwater life of the National Park Eastern Scheldt.
In the tidal pools you see a miniature of this rich nature: algae, seaweed, eelgrass and anemones, as well as mussels and oysters. Between the stones live shrimps, small fish and lugworms. The picture changes with every turn of the tide.
The pools are an accessible 'display of tides', where the dynamics of wet and dry become directly visible. For children it is a place to discover, for walkers and cyclists a resting point.
Those who linger a little longer discover above all one thing: life in the Eastern Scheldt may move slowly, but it moves constantly. The rhythm of the water makes the tide an experience of the landscape itself.
