Kwedammertje Who doesn't love them? Strawberries — the little queens of summer. In Kwadendamme, summer sometimes arrives a little earlier than elsewhere. From mid-May to early September, you can visit the strawberry vending machine for the famous 'Zoete Kwedammertjes' of the Vermue family. The family grows the Elsanta variety, renowned for its lovely balance of sweet and refreshingly tart, and its irresistible aroma. The charming name came about thanks to an Amsterdammer staying at Camping Kwedammertje, who spontaneously dubbed the strawberries 'Kwedammertjes' — and the name stuck. The strawberries grow on the farm itself, on raised platforms under rain covers and in sheltered, sunny spots. The mild climate of Landscape Park Borsele — partly influenced by the proximity of the sea — creates ideal growing conditions. And let's be honest: anyone who grabs strawberries from the vending machine has probably already eaten one before getting back to their bike. The strawberry effect!
