Mattemburgh Inlaag

About this location
Bird enthusiasts know Mattemburgh for its 'Vogelarij': an observation hut overlooking a wildlife refuge.
In winter large flocks of geese and ducks, in spring and autumn migrating waders, and year-round raptors hunting above the dike while reed birds breed below.
Mattemburgh formed when an old sea dike proved insufficient. A new dike was built inland and the land in between was surrendered to the water. The double dike structure remains visible today.
