When asked which fish is the tastiest, John quips: 'a dead one'. Then comes the laugh.
For decades he has been selling fresh sea fish at Colijnsplaat harbour — sole, brill, turbot, sea bass and Zeeland shrimps — but the most requested speciality is his kibbeling of deep-fried cod or haddock.
John occupies a great spot: views of the Zeeland Bridge, right next to the Colijnsplaat fish auction. That building now houses Crustalicious, a crab-processing company with whom John collaborates. Development plans are in progress, but John's shop has a place in them.
