Monument for the Drowned Villages

About this location
Between the harbour of Colijnsplaat and the Zeeland Bridge stands the Monument for the Drowned Villages. It commemorates the catastrophic 15th and 16th-century storm floods that swallowed almost all of Noord-Beveland.
The artwork by Lydia Schouten consists of a tower with a staircase and sound installation. A voice recites historic dates — 1134, 1404 (St Elizabeth's Flood) and 1530 (St Felix's Flood) — interspersed with sounds of wind and water.
The names of 117 drowned villages are inscribed on the steps.
