It is simple really: there are cherries and there are Zeeland cherries. The Zeeland cherries from care farm De Kersenkooi in Kats are larger than supermarket cherries, and the taste is unmatched.
When they are almost black in colour they are perfectly ripe: juicy, sweet and full-flavoured. Son Danny Nelis runs the farm with his parents Martin and Nicole.
Father Martin smiles as Danny says: 'If people drive an hour and a half from the Randstad or Flanders for these cherries, they must be worth it.' And they are.
