Lookout Point Postbrug Yerseke Moer

About this location

At the edge of the Yerseke Moer, near the Postbrug, lies a new viewpoint as part of the experience route through this special landscape. From the platform, a landscape unfolds that may seem simple at first glance but tells a long history.

The Yerseke Moer is one of the oldest cultural landscapes in Zeeland. During the Middle Ages, salt was extracted here from peat, a process known as moernering or selnering. The salt-rich peat was dug up, burned and processed into salt. This activity brought prosperity but dramatically changed the landscape. Ground subsidence created the characteristic pattern of peat pits, waterways and irregular plots of land.

Today the area is a valuable natural and cultural landscape, with wet grasslands, saline seepage and flower-rich dykes. At the viewpoint you'll find more information. During the accessible months, Het Zeeuwse Landschap organises guided excursions.
