As we ride together through the orchard, Marcel Eversdijk enthusiastically talks about the different varieties of apples and pears that colour beautifully in the autumn sun. Alongside the regular apple varieties, such as Delcorf, Elstar, Jonagold and Tessa, he also grows special varieties. Take a look at that beautiful Discovery apple, which you can really only find at specialist fruit shops. A deliciously tart to pleasantly sweet apple, full of flavour and spreading a wonderful fragrance.
Besides apples, he also grows pears and plums in their orchard, and not forgetting honey. This orchard and several others are now run by three cousins: Marco, Jan-Willem and Marcel. The family business has been in fruit growing since 1920.
And of course that fruit is on sale in their little shop on the Postweg, aptly named 't Heerlijke Hoekje. Alongside their own fruit, they also sell their own apple juice, pear juice, apple-raspberry juice, apple-cherry juice and many more delicious varieties. Marcel: "At some point, the fruit was bringing in so little that we started looking for more added value. And we found that in our own pressed juice, which we gave the brand name 'Ons sap' (Our juice)".
The little shop holds even more delights — just look at the wonderful baked goods on display: the most delicious fruit tarts and apple turnovers to savour. All that fruit, honey, juices and tarts can be admired, and above all tasted, at 't Heerlijk Hoekje on the Postweg in Kapelle. An oasis of calm, fragrant with apple and cinnamon, amid the bustle of everyday life, where everything can be turned into a gift.
