Art Picnic Route 26 km

The Art Picnic Spots route is a special themed cycling route through Walcheren.

There are 3 routes: a long one of 56 km that passes all eight Art Picnic Spots, and two shorter ones that take you past four Art Picnic Spots. The short routes are 30 km and 26 km. You can start the routes at any point.

What you won't expect!
The island of Walcheren is of unexpected beauty. So much landscape variety combined in a beautiful cycling route. And the sea is always within reach. Furthermore, there are the beaches, but also the dreamy villages and glorious places with a rich historical past. Nature reserves and the countryside; on this bike tour, the landscape unfolds and allows you to enjoy it.

And then…suddenly…that’s not what you expected! You look and look, you can't believe your eyes. What is it? Could you sit on it? Are you allowed to sit on it? Yes, you are. Feel free to sit down and enjoy this unexpected picnic spot and the magnificent view. The picnic spots were designed by Joke de Witte. The idea behind them is a tourist who is a stranger in this environment. The art picnic spots are the same: strangers in their surroundings. Strangers experience the landscape differently than locals. They, in turn, share that experience with the locals, and thus the circle is complete.

This route takes you past four Art Picnic Spots on Walcheren: the Sailboat, the Eggs, the Church Tower, and the Wavy Bench.
