Canoeing on the Veerse Meer

In the Netherlands, in the heart of the province Zeeland lies the lake "Veerse Meer", ideal for canoeing, surrounded by a rich flora and fauna. This former sea arm is cut off from the sea and is connected by the sluice "Zandkreekdam" with the "Oosterschelde". That is why the water in "Veerse Meer" is almost as salty as seawater and just as clear.
The Veerse Meer is approximately 22 kilometers long, at several places 1500 meters wide and is situated among the former islands "Noord-Beveland", "Zuid Beveland" and "Walcheren". Some islands and banks that used to overflow at high tide are today nature reserves. Most of the islands however have been declared recreational areas. When there is a lot of wind, you can seek shelter in one of the many creeks with their beautiful reed shores.

The canoe is without any doubt the best form of transportation to discover the Veerse Meer with all its possibilities. By canoe you will find places that otherwise would be inaccessible. Your sporting activities will consist of a balanced combination of natural as well as cultural elements.
