Ternisse Cheese Farm

In the characteristic hedgerow landscape of Landscape Park Borsele, in Nisse, you'll find the Ternisse cheese farm of the Nieuwenhuijse family. The charming little shop offers both salty and sweet Zeeland flavours. The star of the show is the handcrafted raw-milk Nissenaar farmhouse cheese, available from young and mild to crumbly and aged, in no fewer than twelve herb varieties including onion, honey and clover. Raw-milk cheese is made from unpasteurised milk, and its flavour is shaped by soil, landscape, climate, flora, feed and cattle breed. Sometimes the characteristic salt crystals are visible — and deliciously detectable on the palate. Besides cheese, the homemade farm ice cream is a favourite, with unusual flavours like bolus and blackcurrant. The farm also sells fresh milk, buttermilk, butter, eggs and various Zeeland regional products. Peek through the window into the cheese dairy, and kids can admire the cows out the back.
