Harinck Organics

About this location
"Describing a vegetable as having a sweet flavour is quite tricky," says Dick Harinck of the organic vegetable stall just outside Kloetinge. In the heart of the South Beveland countryside he sells vegetables from his own cultivation. "Maybe you end up with my red beetroot. When the sun shines enough, they develop a lovely sweet taste." Pumpkins also have something sweet and are available from late summer through winter. Dick also sells organic potatoes, carrots and brown beans — a crop that has traditionally been part of Zeeland but is difficult to grow organically. Nuts, apples and pears are also available depending on the season.
Dick belongs to a small group of organic farmers in Zeeland. In 2024, only 2.7% of Zeeland's agricultural area was farmed organically. Organic farming means working with natural processes and attention to soil, water and biodiversity. It requires more labour and carries more risks.
"You taste it. Our products have so much more flavour." Moreover, direct sales create personal contact and appreciation.
