ZeeuwsFruitMuseum

About this location

A culinary route through the Bevelanden is not complete without the ZeeuwsFruitMuseum in Kapelle, the heart of fruit growing. The museum tells the history of apples, pears, plums and cherries and shows how deeply fruit is woven into the culture and cuisine of the region.

As far back as the Middle Ages monasteries planted orchards; in the seventeenth century they became status symbols at castles and country estates, while standard-tree orchards in the polders supplied fruit for cider, syrup and preserved delicacies. In the museum you taste this past and its connection to the cuisine of today, how old varieties differ from modern ones and how craftsmanship continues right through to the table. The history of the fruit auction also comes to life.

The surrounding collection orchard, with authentic Zeeland varieties, functions as a living DNA bank and offers blossom, growth or picking depending on the season. With exhibitions, guided tours, cycling routes and courses the museum demonstrates: fruit is not just a product, but a story — from monastery to orchard and kitchen.
