City trips in Zeeland

Fancy a city trip? Why not give Zeeland a try?! With its rich architectural heritage, enchanting medieval buildings, stylish bars and restaurants and surprising shops, Zeeland will never leave you disappointed. Take, for example, the provincial capital Middelburg, or Goes - renowned for its fashion events - or the seaside resorts on the Zeeland-Flanders coast.

Middelburg city trip

Not without reason, Middelburg is sometimes referred to the Amsterdam of Zeeland. Middelburg has the most historic buildings of all the towns and cities in Zeeland. Its splendid medieval Abbey, for example. Or the Oostkerk, the city’s Protestant church. The city dazzles with its picturesque streets, bustling harbour, elegant townhouses and, of course, its stylish shops and night-life. Whether it’s shopping, museums, sailing or culinary surprises you’re after, Middelburg never ceases to surprise!

Visit the one and only Sjakie's chocolate museum, drink coffee in one of the Netherlands’ finest bookshops, enjoy a glass of wine in 't Vliegendt Hert and sample gastronomic delights in one of the city’s top restaurants.

Goes city trip

Goes is the fashion Mecca of Zeeland. The city organises the Goes Couture Fashion Show every year, where internationally renowned couturiers can show off their latest designs. Goes also has a vast array of retail stores, from well-known chains to niche boutiques. Here you can shop until you drop!

And when you do start to flag, rest awhile at one of the lively pavement cafés on the harbourfront or the bustling market square. Don’t forget a visit to the Maria Magdalena church and Slot Oostende, a hotel, restaurant, pub and brewery rolled into one!

Zierikzee city trip

Another Zeeland town that’s worth visiting for a longer break is Zierikzee. Located on the island of Schouwen-Duivleand, Zierikzee is an authentic old port with a rich history. Zierikzee and its surroundings have more than 500 listed monuments to marvel at. For example, the two town gates, the Gravesteen (a 16th century stone-built house), the Dikke Toren (church tower) and the Lutheran Church. There are plenty of boutique shops, outdoor cafes on the harbour and marketplace, and other sights for visitors to enjoy too. Why not walk the town trail?

In all, there’s quite a lot to take in! Read more about what makes Zierikzee so special.

Zeeland-Flanders city trip

Zeeland-Flanders has a reputation for being the most epicurean part of the province: sample the atmosphere first-hand in one of its towns. We would advise combining a city trip to Zeeland-Flanders by visiting several towns and resorts. This way you get to experience the uniqueness of this, the southernmost part of Zeeland.

Stay in fashionable Cadzand, for example, visit the beautiful old fortified town of Hulst and go shopping in Sluis. Savour delectable fresh fish in Breskens and visit the impressive ‘drowned’ polders of Land van Saeftinghe.
