Sustainable activities in Zeeland

Zeeland has a wealth of sustainable activities you can take part in. Terra Maris, situated in the beautiful De Manteling nature reserve is the number-one museum for nature and landscape in Zeeland. It’s a place which puts biodiversity centre-stage and is a great destination for kids too.

For bargain hunters who like to shop sustainably, Zeeland has all sorts of great second-hand shops. And if you’re the outdoors type, why not take a hike or cycle-ride through Zeeland’s polders and nature reserves, such as the forests of Boswachterij Westerschouwen or the dune landscapes of Oranjezon. Remember to stick to the designated footpaths and waymarked routes. Kayaking and canoeing are other fun pursuits you can engage in on the inland lagoons of Grevelingenmeer or Veerse Meer!

For getting around, e-choppers can be hired from a whole host of rental companies. If you’re doing a road trip with an electric vehicle, then here’s a list of charging stations in Zeeland

Fun and eco-friendly tips!

Eating sustainably in Zeeland

What’s not to like about buying local produce straight from the farmer? For example, you can do your shopping by bike and watch Zeeland’s landscape roll by from the comfort of your saddle. ‘Lekkerder bij de Boer’ is an app which lists all farm shops and other outlets selling local products. You can plan your route accordingly.

Eating out is one of the attractions of being on holiday and in Zeeland, local ingredients are never in short supply! Did you know that in Koudekerke alone, there are two MICHELIN green-star restaurants: Hof aan Zee and Restaurant Morille? The green star signifies that they work predominantly in a sustainable fashion using local ingredients.

An even better way to sample local Zeeland products - for example, beer, wine, saline vegetables and oysters - is at source at a tasting session. Bon appétit!

These are fully climate-neutral and only recyclable materials have been used in their construction. At Camping Olmenveld, they have been working with partners to develop a sustainable water management system for tourists.
